Protopage longevity
It has recently been announced that a competitor of ours, YourMinis, has shut down its start page, and we’ve had a number of emails asking nervously whether Protopage is safe.
We’re extremely lucky at Protopage to have very low costs and to not rely on venture capital or any external investors in order to provide our start page service. As far as we know, we’re unique in that we’re the only major start page that has not taken external capital.
Believe it or not, Protopage has now been live for over three years! We launched in August 2005, when we spent our first weekend as the #1 most bookmarked site on the “del.icio.us” bookmarks site. We’re cash flow positive, and we’d like to reassure you all that although we don’t always blog as often as we’d like, we’re here for the long run and we see no reason that Protopage will not still be around ten years from now. After all, we heavily rely on Protopage ourselves and that’s why we nurture it!

Thanks for the reassurance. As a consultant moving between sites (and home) my Protopage home page is an invaluable tool for keeping all my links in order. Keep up the excellent work.

Being a “long-term” (but not a “frequent) user, I really appreciate your commitment and the fact that you’ve issued this reassuring statement.

Thank you for all that you do. I use Protopage on a daily basis and if it went away I’d lose a lot of valuable data. Well, valuable to me at least. Thank you and have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. :D

Protopage is the BEST start page application on the internet and I hope that you guys get the respect and attention you truly deserve in 2009 !
If you’ve already tried the other start page applications, you know that Protopage is the best. Thanks again for all the great work you’ve done.

Good news. Independence is never easy, but has many rewards.
Heard you guys talking with Leo Laport just after launching in 2005, have been using Protopage ever since. I\’m still only using about 5% of its potential, but Protopage is the most sensible start page I\’ve come across.
Cheers

Great. I use your page since your begin, and I am happy that you are smart enough not to have venture capital. Thanks.
PS: Too bad some cartoons don’t work…

Hi folks
What\’s happening with Protopage? Are you still developing?
The single most useful feature addition I can think of would be the ability to drag links between bookmarks panels – my protopage is getting very cluttered and it would make things really easy if I could just drag and drop.

For this matter, once I discussed with one of my friends, not only about the content you talked about, but also to how to improve and develop, but no results. So I am deeply moved by what you said today.
