Firefox upgrade recommended

For those using Firefox to access Protopage – an important bug has been fixed in the latest Firefox 1.5.0.2 release.

This bug, which only affected Firefox users, caused news feeds to rapidly reload and very occasionally resulted in a browser crash.

We are very happy to inform you that Firefox have fixed this bug and we highly recommend that Firefox users now upgrade to version 1.5.0.2.

For more information on this bug, see this link: “window.setTimeout() goes crazy periodically – functions are immediately called repeatedly.”.

does this bug also affect other Gecko based browsers such as Flock?

I ve installed the new firefox version but i still can’t see my feeds. My feeds widget show all the time “Retrieving feeds…”. With the old firefox version it worked perfectly before. I tried using internet explorer and it works. What should i do to use protopage with firefox?

    thx!

The bug you mentioned did show up now and again I noticed, never had a browser crash just the rapid reload – Since upgrading it works perfectly – Thanx for the info.

  4. Protopage Team Says:

From what we’ve been told – Flock will benefit from the latest changes made to the Firefox code – so you should get the upgrade soon too.

Martin – please drop us a note with the name of your Protopage so we can take a look.

Protopage will still work very well with any version of Firefox – we’re recommending this upgrade because although a browser crash previously only happened very occasionally, it’s quite annoying when it does happen.

    Hi guys,

Thx for the quick response. I’ve checked it again and still does’t work. My protopage’s name is: “chirinocm” (http://www.protopage.com/chirinocm). My firefox version is 1.502, i’ve tried it with another computer (with the same version) and it didn t work either.

    cheers!

  6. Protopage Team Says:

Martin – one of your feeds (Web ink) was providing an invalid data stream. We have removed this from your page and you should find that everything now works properly. We’ll look into a way of filtering this feed so that it does not cause problems in the future.

  7. Martin Says:

Many thanks guys! It all works perfectly now. That’s excellent service.

    cheers!

I’d like to be able to access Protopage on my web browsing Windows Mobile 5 powered PDA phone. The abilty to display large fonts would come in handy for PDAs. I wish to use protopage as a home page for my links on my PDA

    Hi Alex,

There IS no way to directly link into an additional page. The only way is to open at the first page, and then to click the required page number in the lower right corner. Of course, the required page must be public…
Maybe, though, you could go to the contact page and REQUEST that the Team add some way to address additional pages directly.

As to your second question: perhaps Bloglines is using some javascript code to break out of a containers/frames. If so, it’s not Protopage’s fault, and there’s nothing you can do… If I’m wrong about this, then I don’t know what’s going on.

  12. Protopage Team Says:

Thanks FreeBee, that is exactly the current situation. We’ll bring in direct page linking in version 3.

I’ve created a forum for all protopage users to discuss our favorite (or one of our favorite) start pages. Check it out and tell your friends. You can also keep track of the forum right in your protopage. It’s got an RSS feed.

Great idea Nik, it might be a good idea to put this in the other updates I only came across it by accident, I don’t have Firefox but read it anyway.

i think in version 3 of protopage you should add a “lock All pages” button , to the lock panel,so people with a lot of pages on there site can lock them all quickly . thx!

  16. DAVE Says:

I think on the 3rd version you should be able to add sound. My friend Charles and I were brainstorming good ideas.
    Thx,

I just signed up, and have met with initial frustration using FF 1.5.0.4

I can’t delete panels and saving changes works sometimes, and others, not. i can think of many uses for protopage, but need it to work consistently, of course, and look forward to fixing whatever is failing to work for me. Thanks for helpful ideas here.

  22. Protopage Team Says:

    Fred,

Try uninstalling some of our Firefox plugins if you have any – they have been known to cause javascript problems in the FF browser. We also have a slight bug which means that if you resize a news feed window the dimensions might not be saved – this will be fixed in v3. Hope this helps.

  23. Kirk Says:

Does anyone know how to delete a page? I can add them and lock/unlock them, but I don’t see how to delete them.

I’ve been away from home for 4 month and set this up on my laptop while in Dallas TX.
Now I’m back home using a different ISP and for some strange reason, I can’t access my page on my desktop using IE.
I can see the 1st public page but can’t access any of the other pages and can’t sign in.

It works fine if I open it in Firefox. It works fine on the laptop and another desktop using IE and/or Firefox.

Any clues/help, would be greatly appreciated.
