Get your Protopuppy!
Until recently, much of the design of Protopage has been in flux. There have been several major aspects of v3 that we have redesigned twice over after receiving feedback from test groups. We have also made the decision to extend the functionality beyond our original plans. Earlier timeline predictions required guesses as to how many design iterations we would have to complete in order to get Protopage just right. Now that we have locked down the design, the timeline is far more predictable.
We know that many of you have been keenly awaiting version 3 and we thank you for your patience. Because of the deep structural changes to the application, we’ve been forced to batch all of our new features into one ‘big bang’ release. After v3 goes live, we will resume our regular weekly blog postings and release new features week-by-week as soon as they are developed.
While we’re completing Protopage v3, we thought you might enjoy playing with our new mascot, Protopuppy! You can try Protopuppy and see full instructions for adding it to your page here:

How lame! What’s that puppy?! A mascot?
What’s going on guys? This thing is ugly and pointless. What do you expect us to do with that?
This is not gonna help us wait for v3 in any way.
Sorry for the harsh tone, I guess you’re doing a good job developping Protopage but this lame marketing mascot thing upsets me.

You’d not be a good pet owner. Advise retirement from the internet(s).

Looking forward to the new update.
Thanks for the virtual puppy.

I had to rearrange the page some to make room for him but I think he is pretty cool. :)

Cool mutt.
However, I’m not really sure how this demonstrates new v3 features, as it looks just like some web code in a sticky note. We can already do this.
Or did I miss the point?

What can I say but… YAY!!! And, Thanks for working so hard!

I think the idea of Protopuppy is interesting, but what about a virtual pet?
We would play with and feed our customized pet to keep it healthy and happy. It might keep some of us coming back to Protopage to have us check in on our pet.

>>rfschenk “It might keep some of us coming back to Protopage to have us check in on our pet.”
Wrong, that’s not an issue, I mean the purpose of Protopage is to be a startpage helping you to get organized, gathering usefull information… If you don’t come and check your own protopage, that protopet won’t help. And if that protothing does make you come back it means that you didn’t need a protopage to begin with.
Now I’m not saying these kind of toys/games wouldn’t be nice to have. Actually I’d love to be able to play games from within my protopage. But that protopet is a failure, it doesn’t do anything, it doesn’t grow, it doesn’t sleep, it doesn’t need me. And I have no problem with the idea, I mean, I “owned” a tamagotchi for one year, but this thing is just lame.
Now guys don’t lose you time developping stuff like that what we want is usefull tools to help us being more productive, nobody needs a protopet.

Personally, I really like the Protopuppy. It shows a lot of creativity on the part of the developers. It also shows that the developers like to have a bit of fun once in a while. I want my startpage to be functional, but I also want it to be fun to visit and be very customizable.
I can’t wait to see what is in store for us with version 3! Keep up the great work!

I like the protopuppy. I can’t post it on my livejournal though. Why does it work on Myspace but not livejournal?

Ok guys, long time no see, but I’m back again, finally…
I have yet to check on all the things that have changed over the past 18 months. First shock was: my personal protopage doesn’t look like anything I remember building… The objects are still the same, but it looks so incredibly different… Give me time to get used to it…
What the function and good of this pet is, I don’t know. I guess there’s very little chance of me putting it on my page. Nevertheless, I think it’s cool that the Team is still creative. They make all kinds of stuff, some for you, some for me, there’s a bit of everything for everyone. Keep up keeping it up, guys .
Andre still there? All well with you too?
Ok, before this forum becomes a chatbox, I’ll sign off :)
